I could try to disguise my thoughts,

Sing like a poet with subtleties,

Act like a soldier in camouflage,

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

Maybe I’m a man who has opened his eyes,

Maybe I’m a boy who’s tired of living lies,

Maybe I’m a fish who’s tired of running from the sea,

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

I could play classical guitar,

I could folk pick minuets,

I could direct strings and clarinets,

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

Maybe I’m a songwriter on a stage,

Maybe I’m a person in your masquerade,

Maybe I’m nothing but a passing song,

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

Maybe I’m a word that wants to cut your pride down.

Maybe I’m His Word that wants to stab you,

Maybe I’m nothing but a passing song,

Maybe I’m amazed at what God can do.

Maybe I’d like to see Him do it to you.

I was everything’s slave,

I’m slowly becoming free.

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

Well maybe it’s that He cares so much,

Maybe it’s that I don’t care at all;

Maybe it’s that I know how it is to be desperate.

That doesn’t tell you what Jesus means to me.

He died on the cross for you and me;

By his wounds we are set free.

Grace and Mercy on Calvary’s Tree -

That starts to tell you what Jesus means to me.
